Testing is required to ensure your vehicle complies with California’s emissions regulations for registration. Passing the CARB Clean Truck Check is crucial for contributing to reduced air pollution and complying with state law.
For commercial vehicles, testing is required twice a year. However, starting in 2027, it will be mandated four times a year. Motorhomes and agricultural vehicles need to be tested annually.
The CARB-compliant OBD testing includes a comprehensive check of the vehicle’s on-board diagnostic system, ensuring that all components are functioning correctly and that emissions meet the required standards.
If a vehicle fails the Clean Truck Check, the owner has 30 days to get the necessary repairs and submit a passing emissions compliance test to the California Air Resources Board (CARB). After making the repairs, you can schedule a retest to achieve compliance.
To prepare your vehicle, ensure that it has been properly maintained, including regular oil changes and servicing. Check that all engine lights on the dashboard are addressed, and ensure that your vehicle’s emissions system is functioning correctly.
